General questions

Is Mepra flatware dishwasher safe?

Yes. All our 18/10 stainless steel flatware is dishwasher safe. Rinse off salt and acidic residue before washing and dry the pieces after the cycle.

What makes Mepra products sustainable?

For us, sustainability starts with a simple idea: making objects that last. Mepra products are designed to accompany you for a lifetime, a quiet answer to the throwaway culture.

Most of the steel we use comes from recycled sources, and every production scrap is recycled to become new raw material. Since the early 1990s, an advanced closed-loop system has recovered, filtered and reused washing water and detergents in our production cycle, with zero discharge into the sewer network.

Our factories are also powered by the sun. Our photovoltaic system produces more than 160,000 kWh every year, reducing our carbon footprint by 84,000 kg annually. Small choices, made every day, that help us look after the place we call home and the world our products travel to.

How should I care for my Mepra products?

Caring for Mepra pieces is simple, and a few good habits are enough to keep them beautiful for a lifetime.

Avoid overly aggressive chemical detergents and abrasive tools such as scouring pads or harsh powders, which could scratch or dull the steel. Choose gentle products instead, and dry each piece promptly after washing, whether by hand or in the dishwasher. Treated with care, your Mepra products will keep their original brilliance, meal after meal.

Is it possible to engrave text or logo on flatware?

Yes, every single one. From flatware to holloware, each Mepra product can be personalized, and there is no minimum order: whether you need a handful of pieces or an entire collection, we give every project the same attention.

A logo, a monogram or a bespoke decoration can be applied with precision, even on both sides of a flatware handle. The surface itself can be transformed too, with a wide range of finishes, textures and PVD colors to create a look that reflects your space and your identity.

You don't need a finished design to get started. Our Technical Department can take an idea, a sketch or simply an intuition and develop it together with you, until it becomes a piece ready to go into production.

Who is Mepra?

Mepra stands for Metallurgica Prandelli, a family company born in Lumezzane, in the province of Brescia, a valley where metalworking has been part of daily life for more than two centuries. The Prandelli family's story began in the early 1800s, when the waters of the Gobbia river powered their first metalworking operations.

Mepra was officially founded on 1 January 1947 by Giovanbattista Prandelli and his sons Pietro, Felice and Giacomo. A few years later, a trip to Belgium changed everything: Felice noticed a strong demand for stainless steel flatware, which at the time was hard to find. In 1951 Mepra produced its first 18/10 stainless steel flatware, developing in house the machinery needed to work it. That same year, the elephant became our symbol.

From the 1960s, the range grew to include holloware, cookware and coffee shop items. Today, four generations later, the Prandelli family still leads the company with the same passion for metal and the same care for every detail. Mepra pieces are found on tables all over the world, from Michelin-starred restaurants and fine dining venues to some of the most prestigious hotels, wherever the art of hospitality is taken seriously.

Has Mepra won any design awards?

Stainless steel products

What does our lifetime warranty cover?

We offer a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects in the material and finish, including discoloration, rust and peeling. The warranty applies for as long as you own the product. Normal wear and tear or damage caused by misuse are not covered.

What material is Mepra flatware made of?

Our heart beats in 18/10 stainless steel, the material that has defined Mepra since 1951, when we produced our first stainless steel flatware.

The numbers tell its story: 18% chromium and 10% nickel. Chromium makes the steel highly resistant to corrosion and rust, while nickel gives it its bright, lasting shine and a pleasant weight in the hand. The result is a hygienic, non-porous material that does not alter the taste of food and stands up to the intense rhythm of professional kitchens and industrial dishwashers.

Most of the steel we use comes from recycled sources, and like all steel it can be recycled endlessly: a material made to last, in every sense.

What is the difference between 18/10 and 18/0 stainless steel?

The numbers refer to the chromium and nickel content. 18/10 contains ten percent nickel, which gives a deeper shine and better resistance to corrosion. Knife blades are made of a harder alloy so they keep their edge.

What finishes are available for Mepra products?

Every finish gives Mepra pieces a different personality, and each one can be applied not only to flatware but to the whole table, from holloware to serving pieces, for a perfectly coordinated look.

Mirror. Our classic polished finish: bright, pure and timeless, it reflects light and brings brilliance to every setting.

Peltro. A finish with a character all its own. Its vintage, nostalgic look recalls times gone by, bringing a classic and authentic atmosphere to both traditional and contemporary settings. It is also highly resistant to scratches and fingerprints: beauty that lasts.

Ice. A soft, satin finish that spreads light gently across the whole piece. Slightly matte yet luminous, it glows rather than shines, like the surface of ice catching the light.

Frozen. Sandblasted, with an icy tone and a modern, sinuous look, Frozen has a striking three-dimensional quality. Like Peltro, it offers outstanding resistance to scratches and fingerprints.

Do your knives stay sharp for a lifetime?

Yes, all our knives have a double serration to ensure that Mepra knives stay sharp for a lifetime.

I have seen Mepra flatware in a restaurant and would like to order this model, is that possible?

Yes this is possible. Please send us a picture of the flatware and/or name of the restaurant by e-mail ([email protected]) and we will get back to you within 1 working day.

PVD colored products

What is PVD?

PVD is the acronym for Physical Vapour Deposition. PVD uses a physical process to produce a vapor of material, which is then deposited on the object which requires coating through vacuum. Through this process Ions of titanium nitride and other metals nitrides are deposited on the surface of the flatware.

This technology has been developed for the aeronautic industry and is used to cover the shuttles panels to make them more resistant. This technology has found an application in the professional flatware business to satisfy the demand of hotels and restaurants that are looking for heavy duty gold-plated flatware.

This treatment gives the flatware superb technical features like:
1) Incredible superficial hardness (2,500 hv, 4 times a standard plating), allowing an excellent resistance to scratching.

2) Titanium nitride and zirconium nitride are biocompatible and therefore 100% safe for food contact.

3) Thanks to the very thin TiN ions, the friction coefficient is strongly reduced and, therefore the surface becomes easier to clean.

4) Thanks to the high hardness and chemical neutrality, titanium nitride and make the cutlery resistant to corrosion. The colour never changes or fades.

How are the different colors applied?

The colors gold, bronze, black, champagne and rainbow are applied using PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition), a vacuum-based coating process in which titanium nitride and other metal nitrides are deposited onto the surface of the flatware.

Originally developed for the aerospace industry, PVD technology provides exceptional durability and is widely used for professional flatware. The coating offers high surface hardness for excellent scratch resistance, is food-safe and corrosion-resistant, and makes the flatware easier to clean. The colors are designed to remain stable and resist fading over time.

How do I care for a colored finish?

Wash with a mild detergent and avoid abrasive sponges or aggressive cleaning agents. Do not leave the pieces in water for long periods.

Do you offer matte black flatware?

Yes we do, but only upon request. It is priced 10% higher than our polished black flatware. To place an order, please contact us at [email protected].

Will the gold finish wear off over time?

No. The finish is applied with a PVD treatment: a coating that is bonded to the steel at a molecular level. With normal use and care it keeps its colour for the lifetime of the piece.

Fantasia flatware

What is Mepra Fantasia made of?

Fantasia is where colour meets craftsmanship. The name means "imagination" in Italian, and it captures the playful yet refined spirit of a collection available in 30 colors, designed to bring personality to every table, from a formal dinner to a relaxed everyday meal.

Behind its lightness lies serious engineering. The handles are made of high-performance resin enriched with glass fibres, which gives them a brilliant shine and a colour intensity that lasts over time. They are joined to the steel through ultrasonic welding, a process that creates a strong, precise bond without adhesives or chemicals.

The result is flatware as durable as wood, but far more practical: unbreakable, resistant to wear and corrosion, and able to withstand thousands of dishwasher cycles without losing its beauty. Ideal for professional use, and perfect for anyone who loves to play with colour.

Silverplated products

What makes Mepra silver-plated products different?

Silver has always been a symbol of heritage and refined hospitality. At Mepra, we give this tradition a contemporary interpretation, combining industrial expertise, material knowledge and artisanal care, entirely in Italy.

Unlike traditional silver-plated pieces made on brass, ours begin with 18/10 stainless steel, chosen for its hygiene, durability and complete recyclability. Each surface undergoes a dedicated preparation, and a specialised bonding layer between steel and silver ensures perfect adhesion over time. That is why our silver plating is guaranteed against peeling. Welds are protected to preserve the continuity of the plating, and in our coffee and tea service items the interiors remain in stainless steel, so beverages never come into contact with reactive coatings: pure taste, maximum food safety.

As manufacturers, we can also tailor every detail to your project: silver thickness, partial or selective plating, finish combinations, surface effects and textures. And despite their elegance, our silver-plated pieces are made for real service, dishwasher included.
